I don't know why but there are no hallmarks or words anywhere to be found I have found an 8 stomped onto the underside of the lid and underneath on the base there is an 8 and a 3 stomped onto it. It is not magnetic anywhere inside or outside and the bleach test darkened the area I put it on within 5 seconds. I have also done the ice test and the ice melts alot faster on the teapot than on a standard piece of metal cutlery. It is either silver plate with a non magnetic metal underlayed or this is genuine silver. This teapot is ideal for serving tea or coffee and is perfect for any occasion.
