Victorian Silver & Leather Housekeepers Chatelaine Belt, With Fittings, H/M 1875

  

This is a rare Victorian housekeepers silver mounted chatelaine belt, complete with several original fittings. The silver buckle is hallmarked for London 1875, with the makers mark of Wright & Davis (WW over FD).

The leather belt itself is in two halves, each half itself in two sections. The two halves are joined at the back by a second buckle that is NOT silver but its retaining clip is. Each half has a silver ring centrally, and from these two rings are suspended chains; three on one side and two on the other. The chains are not silver. One side has a further dog clip for an attachment, in this case where the whistle is. Attached to one chain is a silver mounted sewing case, and to another is a silver mounted flat pin cushion. All the silver sections on this belt bear the same hallmarks other than the pincushion which is unmarked. It is quite possibly considerably earlier than the rest of the belt. The pincushion is cast with the image of a knight on horseback. The belt is in good condition. The pincushion should probably have more pins holding the front and back together, but it is perfectly solid. For scale, the leather belt is 3.8cm deep. We no longer send to South Africa or Israel.
