And of a stunning weight and very special being in such fine order. A quite fabulous mid 19th century hallmarked silver pair of items. It has a most attractive shape. Assayed in London, 1840 by very good maker Joseph Hodgson.
Fully hallmarked to the base rim. Each is engraved twice and always has been, definitely no erasures either (refer to image). The badge is for THE ROYAL LANCASHIRE REGIMENT with the Order Of The Garter. HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE which translates into'' Be Evil Unto Him Who Evil Thinks''.
Each lovely item is very large at 17.5 inches in width. Depth is 13.5 inches. Definitely one for the collectors! A truly special antique lot well worth owning. The condition is very good and all it needs is to be used. Each has scoring to the surface (knife marks) commensurate with age and use. These have not been polished out as it wrecks the patina. Would make a very nice present indeed. Each lovely dish is of exceptional quality and is a most delightful piece of hefty table silver. Weight of actual silver is a staggering 3256 grams (104.69 troy ounces), each piece is made of very thick gauge silver throughout.
Splendid dishes by a good maker. Please note that i have listed many other good items of both modern and antique silver, please do have a look.
