This is a Very Rare and Desirable piece of Antique British Silver produced by Robert Thornton who specialised in these particular items. Made in Solid Sterling Silver it is a Stunning Card Case that has been Beautifully Engraved throughout with a Leaf design but without any Monogram or Initial on the plain central panel on one side. It comes in its original Leather and Velvet box, has an opening Castle design Top that hides the Hallmarks while the outside edges are in a plain wave pattern. It is Fully Hallmarked on the inside as photographed with RT for the maker's name, the Duty Mark for Queen Victoria, the Lion Passant Mark for Silver, the Anchor Mark for Birmingham Assay Office, the Date Letter U for 1869 and it has been electronically tested at a precious metal refinery to confirm the metal content. It weighs 65.6g, measures 9.7cm high x 6.8cm wide x 7mm deep.
The Card Case is in a lightly used and very good condition for its age with just some minor surface wear which is mainly noticeable on the panel. There are tiny dents as photographed on the bottom edge and top corner and also a small dent at the bottom of the panel which will not photograph by itself but the light change can be seen in the last photo. The box also has some very minor wear as you would expect. The item "STUNNING VICTORIAN BOXED ROBERT THORNTON 1869 SOLID STERLING SILVER CARD CASE" is in sale since Tuesday, April 23, 2019.
