Stunning Antique Victorian Inkwell Elkington
A simply stunning very large disc-shaped Victorian inkwell with Neoclassical decoration by Elkington & Co. Engraved throughout with Gods & Goddesses, Warriors and mythical creatures, the central hinged lid features Diana on her chariot. The surrounding border has a further six detailed pictures interspersed with winged creatures and torches. It is marked to the base with Elkington & Co and numbered 941. This inkwell does not have Elkington stamp and date letter but I have seen an identical inkwell stamped with the Elkington letter'R' for 1856. There is a plain circular glass container for ink which is in excellent condition.
The silver plating has been worn through in places, allowing the copper to shine through and overall, with the gilded inner ring, there is a wonderful warm condition of colours.
