Splendid Victorian Silver Plated Claret / Wine Jug, Delicate Vine Engraving To Clear Glass. Full Elkington Hallmarks, Date Letter X 1862. Made By Fredrick Elkington & Co, Birmingham. No Monograms Or Personal Engravings. Total Weight : 1200 Grams (Very Heavy).

The imposing silver plated mount is embossed with bacchanalian scenes and mask with the Bacchus head spout. The Hinged lid is surmounted by a lion holding a vacant shield, the Cylinderical glass body with bulbous foot, beautifully decorated with delicate vine engraving to the crystal clear glass body, also featuring a hand cut starburst / lemon slice design on the underside of the base.

This Splendid Victorian Antique Piece exudes quality and style, although this jug is over 162 years of age, its still very much usable and always looks wonderful doing its job. An absolutely beautiful piece, very heavy and in wonderful condition, pure quality and style. Height, Top to Base : 19.0 cm or 7.5 inch. Width of Claret Jug with handle : 14 cm or 5.5 inch. With without Handle : 13 cm or 5.2 inch. Diameter of Base : 8 cm or 3.2 inch. Weight in Total : 1200 : Grams. Fabulous condition, Clean & Crisp, Very little silver loss, silver work has no nasty dents, dints or scratches, no buckles or twist whatsoever, Handle is true and very strong, Lid is perfect and fits perfectly. Silver plate is bright and shiny without any dull areas or solid silver mount is solid and sealed. Glass body is free of any breaks, cracks or heavy scratches, interior is clear of any fogging or pitting, Glass base is free of any nasty surface scratches / damage. May have some very light marks / scratches on the underside of the base (contact surface area). The vine engraved glass has a wonderful shine and looks wonderful.

Although the Claret / Wine jug is in wonderful condition, it is a genuine antique of over 162 years of age, it will show some age related marks commensurate with its age, however they would be minor. Apologies for the shadows and reflections in some photos as they were taken in a conservatory, hence the reflections and shadows. Any dark areas or strange marks are simply reflections or Shadows as this claret jug is brightly polished without any dark areas.
