Date 1843 (letter h) Maker -Possible John Edward Terry (IET) Please note that is an opinion only. Weight - 166g Approx Height to Handle - 110mm Approx. Height to Rim - 90mm Approx.

Diameter at Rim - 77mm. A near perfect Antique Victorian Solid Silver Christening Mug with a flared rim and tapered body embellished with a cast silver applied rim around the base. This base has four shelled feet and and the mug has an ornate acanthus foliate topped scroll handle with thumb grip. Monogram to the front reads RJ or possibly T. It is set into elongated styled acanthus leaves as C scrolls, inscribed into the silver. The walls of the mug are decorated with floral and leaf patterns.

The mug is in excellent condition though the hallmarks are well rubbed. With careful scrutiny is possible to discern the Gothic script date letter (H) for 1843 but the makers mark is less clear.

Last Letter, T; first letter, probably i; middle letter possibly E. By eliminating other prospects, IET is the likely candidate.

The date and the silverwork style fit the maker John Edward Terry. You will have to look at the photographs and draw your own conclusions.

Terry (if it was him) was a well respected maker, particularly with ornate, crafted tableware. There are a couple of tiny pinprick dents (photo of the noticeable one to the eye) near the base but overall this is a superb collectable display piece.
