This is a Breath Taking fine quality Extremely Rare Early Victorian Solid Silver Sailor Novelty Tankard, This very special Tankard was crafted by the highly sought after Victorian silversmiths Samuel Hayne & Dudley Cater, it was Assayed in London in 1858 making it 160 years old, the quality is stunning, you will not come across another like this on the market it is so very rare, the detailing is very special, the body of this amazing Victorian Tankard is round in shape, the body has eight arched panels and in four of the panels you will see the most unusual. Head and shoulders bust of a Gentleman sitting upon a rounded plinth, another of the arched panels has a wonderful engraved boat with sails and the other arched panel has a delightful engraved image of a young boy dressed as a sailor, the last panel has been engraved much later with a name and date, this is beautiful, the engraved decoration to the body of the tankard is stunning with rich Heraldry shapes, the panels to the body create an outward curved octagon shape to the base, now on to this beautifully crafted handle which is a Victorian Sailor, he is so very detailed from his open button coat with cuffs, his shirt collar and neck scarf, to his long trousers, you can even see the buckles on his shoes, he has longish wavy hair and has one hand to his head , his face is wonderful, one foot is standing on a scroll pediment and to the top of the tankard he is holding a wonderfully detailed rope looped in his hand which then runs around the top of the tankard, This is so very detailed. He quality of the craftsmanship is superb, this would have once belonged to a very wealthy Victorian family and sat pride of place on there table, this was many many years ago when times were so very different, if this Tankard could talk i can just imagine what fascinating stories it could tell, this is so very tactile and once held it has the most wonderful feel. This will add something very special to any collection, my photos dont do it justice. This has hallmarks to the side of the body It is in wonderful condition with only one small ding below the handle and a ding at the base, just mentioned for accuracy.
