A Rare Victorian Hallmarked Sterling Silver and Gilt Centrepiece by Edward & John Barnard. The Centrepiece is 22 1/2" in height with a spread to the candle holders of 14 1/2" and a diameter to the base of 9 not counting the feet. The Centrepiece has a substantial weight of 95.4 oz or 2,705 grams. The Centrepiece stands on 3 geometric feet with excellent geometric detail between with shaped and panelled sides and the top of the base engraved with foliate and grass detail, with the base left plain silver. You then have 3 superbly finished cast silver gilt female figures standing round the base of the Oak tree, this rises up and again is finished in fine detail with leaf and acorn decoration.
The middle section forms the candle holders and again this is formed as the branches of the tree leading to the 3 leaf capped sconces rising from this you have further entwined branches leading to the upper bowl with this again formed of finer branches and leaves.
