A superb Victorian solid sterling silver Fiddle Pattern basting spoon. It is hallmarked for London 1845 with the makers marks being JB. It has been superbly designed being made to what is termed the fiddle pattern and has been engraved with an unusual Owl crest to its handle, beneath this are the initials WDG this may relate to the Gush Family as they have an owl as their crest although it is usually holding balance scales. The reverse has been engrave GD to ME and dated 1846 hence engraved pretty much at the time it was made.It is in superb condition having no dings splits distortions or repairs. 11.5 inches (29.4cms) long by over 2 inches (5.3cms) wide and weighs an impressive 104 grams.
