On offer here I have a fabulous and rare set of 6 hallmarked silver Hamilton & Inches Edinburgh menu or place card holders. They are hallmarked for Edinburgh with one having the date letter for 1896 with the mark for Hamilton and Inches, the thistle and the castle for Edinburgh. The other 5 have the Victoria head, Hamilton and Inches mark and the castle for Edinburgh. They take the form of a dog sitting on a mound beneath perhaps an apple tree and it looks like Gothic letters each side, an S and inverted S perhaps? It may well have been that these were specially commissioned.

They are of the type that has a hoop semi circle which pulls out on a hinge to stand them up and the card slips in between the uprights either side and the front. Condition is excellent looking almost like the day they were made.

They really are beautifully made and make an unusual and lovely set by this renowned Scottish maker. If you require any further information or pictures please feel free to get in touch. I have a broad general knowledge of antiques built up over many years. My descriptions are my opinion of what these items are etc.

It is always difficult to be exact with many items, particularly porcelain, which is unmarked and has no definite provenance so please use the pictures to help with the description. If you have any better knowledge or information regarding any of the items I list I will always be interested to learn of it. Equally if you have any further questions or need further pics please feel free to get in touch!
