Henry Matthews Sterling Silver Shaving Mug Birmingham 1897

  
Hallmarked in Birmingham in 1897 for Henry Matthews - retailers mark "HAMILTON & Co 202 REGENT ST W". Scroll handle, cover with thumb piece, internally parcel gilt. The upper section has a small hinged brush stand above a perforated bowl directly above the main body of the piece which has a large rounded pouring rim. 10.2cm height, 15cm max width. Very good, a few scattered light scratches and some wear to the parcel gilt inteiro. 222 grams (approx 7.1 troy). I have been involved in the antiques business since 1971. My career took a leap forward when I joined Bonhams in 1976. Some five years later I became head of the Decorative Arts department.
