GL&Co 1890s Sublime Antique Victorian Diamond Paste Star Brooch Pendant Silver

  

Please ignore the colour of the brooch in the photos, this is not a grey brooch, it is gleaming silver with fabulous diamond bright pastes. A large central round high crowned paste of aprox 4.2mm is surrounded by 18 bright pastes, all the pastes are invisibly bead set with no claws. A stunning rare original & unaltered in any way, solid silver antique brooch & beautifully clear UK hallmarks, G L & Co for G Loverage & co, an Anchor, I think a "t" & a lion for Birmingham , it weighs between 5 to 6 grams & is an absolute beauty.

Going by the quality of the pastes I would hazard a guess that they may be French, & was clearly created by a master jeweler. I have never, in all my years of collecting paste silver jewellery seen a better or more beautiful example of a small star brooch, even in daylight the pastes look like diamonds.

There has been no repairs & none of the stones have been replaced, in sunlight it is impossible to look at it, for it is blinding & they appear to be diamonds , it is fabulous. There is no yellowing or discoloured stones, the larger stone to the center of the star is near immaculate with only the very faintest wear to the outermost edges of the top, & has clearly never been dragged across glass to see if it is a diamond which is rare for a vintage brooch of this quality. I have gone over this with a magnifying glass & can find the slightest touch of wear.

With lovely workmanship, as much care going into finishing off the back as to the front. Hand finished throughout, & measures exactly 3.3m m (1.3) in diameter deep. & weighs around 5-6gms, there is a simply strong hook closure & a longer than normal fine hook which finishes underneath the pin which makes me believe this may have fitted into a hair ornament or tiara, for once attached would have been fully secure.

This is fit for the serious vintage jewellery collector. This does what it was intended to do, to replicate diamonds & looks simply astonishing under artificial light. (I recommend you measure against other brooches you own to give an idea as to the size). Vintage silver & paste brooch. No but I will find a box for you.
