BEAUTIFUL EARLY VICTORIAN YORKSHIRE CLERGYMAN JAMES SIMPSON 9CT GOLD FAMILY MOURNING BROOCH PENDANT. T his is a Beautiful Early Victorian 9ct Gold & Black Enamel Mourning Brooch - Pendant, this wonderful Victorian Brooch Pendant dates to circa 1840 making it nearly 178 years old. This belonged to (Mary Simpson) the wife of the Yorkshire clergyman James Simpson, James and Mary were both born in 1785, this beautiful Victorian Brooch- Pendant is wonderful , it has a lovely 9ct gold scroll work decoration which contrast beautifully with the black Enamel background, to the centre is a large oval panel which has plaited hair to the inside and has a glass covering, to the back it has been engraved with the date and names of James and Mary's daughter's, i will explain further down , as you can see the pin is missing but could be repaired but it also still retains its original loop to be worn as a pendant, this is of a good size and not tiny, the quality of the craftsmanship is superb, there are no hallmarks , it has been tested and is 9 ct gold, it is so very tactile and once held it has the most wonderful feel. This early Victorian mourning brooch can actually talk to you about the family it belonged to owing to the engraved names. This will add something very special to any collection, my photos dont do it justice. I will explain a little of its family history, this beautiful mourning pendant would have been worn by Mary Simpson the mother of the girls named and the wife of the Clergyman James Simpson...

James passed away in 1842 at the age of 57 in Yorkshire, the first name engraved is.. Sarah was born in 1827 and was only 14 years old when she passed, i believe as the first daughter Mary lost it is actually Sarah's hair plaited within the glass panel. Mary was born in 1819, she was only 26 years old when she passed. Caroline was born in 1820, she was only 37 years old when shes passed.

18th April 1862 age 78 when she passed. Mary would have worn this wonderfully family pendant close to her heart.
