C1899, JG&S, ANTIQUE VICTORIAN SCOTTISH AGATE AND SILVER VESTA CASE MATCH SAFE. An antique Victorian solid silver vesta case with inlaid Scottish agate panels. Dating to the late 19th Century Victorian period, circa 1899. The solid sterling silver match safe with hinged lid, opens to reveal a gilded interior.

One side is exquisitely engraved with detailed scrolling foliate patterns within a feathered border, the four inlaid agate panels further enhancing the design. The base incorporates a match striker.

A jump ring is attached to the top to allow the vesta to be connected to a watch chain, or to be worn as an interesting pendant. The rim is clearly hallmarked as follows. Silver grade: Lion passant mark for 925 sterling silver. Height: 3.8 cm or 1 1/2 inches.

Gross Weight: 22.4 grams. In good antique condition, without damage or restoration, with a shallow small indentation to each side of the case.
