This is a lovely example of a Victorian Solid Silver Vinaigrette with original loop to hang from and Albert or Chatellaine. It is rectangular in shape with scalloped and shaped edges, it is highly decorated with elevated scrolls around the edge which forms a border for the lighter engraved decorative details.

In the centre of the lid is a shield shaped cartouche which remains empty. The edges of the Vinaigrette are also engraved with a hatched type of design, and the rear of the Vinaigrette decoratively matches the front.

It opens to reveal a soft Gilt interior, and the inner grill which has a scrolling foliage design. All hinges work well and the Vinaigrette closes tightly As mentioned there is a loop at one end to hang from Albert or Chatelaine. It is in very good condition for its age with light only surface scratching and tiny marks on the outside as to be expected.

Inside as mentioned the hinges work well and everything fits together tightly. Inside the floral cover there is some staining on the gilt as there is around the edges of the inside of the base, this is probably caused by the sponge and scent that would have originally been used. None of this detracts from its overall quality in my opinion as it comes from its original use and is not viable when shut.

The vinaigrette is fully hallmarked for Birmingham with strong marks and date letter'K' for 1859. The makers mark FM for Frederick Marson of Spencer Street Birmingham, please look at the pictures and do your own research to confirm the above. The Hallmarks appear on both the inner lid and inside of the base of the Vinaigrette. It weighs 14.8 grams, approx.

Dimensions 3.4cm x 2.3cm x 0.9cm, approx. This lovely vinaigrette would make a unique gift to mark a special occasion or fantastic addition to any collection.
