This is a Beautiful Victorian Solid Silver inlaid Faux Blonde Tortoiseshell Card Case, this dates to circa 1860 making it nearly 160 years old, this is stunning with wonderful detailing to the central cartouche, the faux Blonde Tortoiseshell has the most breath taking colours from dark brown to rich orange and then the most wonderful pale blonde colour, to both sides, this set of wonderfully the central solid silver cartouche it has been inlaid in the form of a laurel reef with delicately engraved foliage in the form of oak leaves and the most stunning little engraved silver acorns, this then frames the most beautiful solid silver almost web like cartouche which in turn is finished with a lovely blank solid silver shield, to open you just press the button on the side , once open you will see the hinge is in wonderful condition and the inside has a deep rich green covering, this would have protected your calling cards.
This would have once belonged to a wealthy Victorian and been your almost daily, in a time when things were so very different, the quality of the craftsmanship is superb, the condition is good with the inside. Covering having at some time been replaced and you can see traces of blue to the edge, to the spine of the case it is lacking a small piece of shell.
With just an old small repair near the Hinge and little wear to Faux tortoise Shell, this is only mentioned for accuracy and is quite normal for the age of this Antique.
