BEAUTIFUL EARLY VICTORIAN DUTCH SOLID SILVER ORNATE MARRIAGE - TOBACCO BOX. This is a Beautiful Early Victorian Solid Silver Marriage - Tobacco box, it was crafted and Assayed in the Netherlands (Dutch) and has a date letter for 1849 making it over 170 years old, the design and decoration is so typical of this period, it has a timeless elegance, it has a serpentine shape curved body with the most stunning bright cut engraved decoration, to the middle you will see the most wonderful basket which is filled with flowers and foliage, this is then framed with delicate engraved flowers, to the other side again it has bright cut engraved decoration, this has a wonderful flower to the centre and again is framed with delicated engraved wavy foliage border, the side of this wonderful early box also has delicate engraved panels, on opning the hinged top you will see it is hallmarked to both the top and bottom, the hinge is in lovely condition and stays open at different angles, the overall condition is wonderful with just a little bruising as you would expect, the quality of the craftsmanship is superb, this would have once belonged to a wealthy Gentleman or Lady in the early Victorian period and been used daily, this was in a time when things were so very different, if this Box could talk i can imagine it would hold some facsinating stories from a different time, this will add something special to any collection.
