Antique Victorian Silver Gilt Turquoise Entwined Snake Buckle. Two entwined snakes pave set with Turquoises and red eyes. Pave set turquoise snake motifs became popular in jewellery 1835-45. However they remained in favour throughout the 19thC in part due to the neo classical and Egyptian revivals. A symbol of love and eternity. A lovely example - the undulations give a beautifully dramatic effect which is so less static than many other examples. Condition: some marks and wear commensurate with age but in excellent t condition for its age. Most of the turquoises have retained their lovely bright blue colour but some have aged a little - they could be replaced but I think thats part of the pieces history and adds another dimension.
