Absolutely superb Victorian sterling silver knife and fork with heavy mother-of-pearl handles. The blade and fork are trimmed with bright-cut feathered borders and both pieces are engraved with an anchor at sea. The handles are decorated with a similar feathered design.
Originally intended as fruit cutlery, this pair is large enough to be used as cake servers; the knife is also very well suited as a paper knife. The handles are simply marvellous - deep, opalescent lustre and very solid design with 1.5 cm depth, which is very unusual for mother-of-pearl handles. Made by Martin, Hall & Co (Richard Martin & Ebenezer Hall) and fully hallmarked for Sheffield, 1894.148.95 g total weight. Knife - 87.95 g, 25 cm, handle 1.5 cm thick fork - 61 g, 19 cm, handle 1.5 cm thick. Tiny fleabites to nacre along the collars. This item is in the category "Antiques\Silver\Solid Silver\Cutlery".
