Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Canteen of Cutlery for 18 - 123 pieces. The pieces of this exceptional, antique Victorian sterling silver straight flatware service for eighteen persons have been crafted in Queen's pattern.
The surface of each fork and spoon handle is embellished with the classic Queen's pattern ornamentation, including a convex shell design to the terminal, in addition to the scroll bordered honeysuckle and rosette design. The decoration to the anterior terminal of each fork and spoon, in addition to the brige of the tongs, incorporates the contemporary engraved initial'W'.
Each piece features honeysuckle designs to the shoulders, in addition to the spoon, ladle and fork heels. This Queens pattern cutlery service consists of 123 pieces.
2 pairs of sugar tongs. The components of this antique Victorian service have been crafted by the London silversmith Elizabeth Eaton in 1856; as expected with period flatware crafted in London, this canteen is a superior gauge of silver. The replacement table and dessert knives have been crafted in the Queen's pattern; the knives were specially ordered at a heavier gauge to compliment the quality of this service. The salt spoons retain the original gilded interiors. These impressive examples of antique silverware are supplied in felt cutlery rolls; which not only protect the items in storage but significantly reduces tarnishing.
"Straight" means all the pieces are made by the same maker in the same year. Predominately all antique silver canteens have replacement knives as the originals have not stood the test of time. This antique Queens pattern cutlery set is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. The Queens pattern is all very sharp.
Full hallmarks struck to the reverse of each piece and to the surface of the knives are all very clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this fine and impressive Victorian canteen. 196.8 troy ounces/6120g (excluding the table and dessert knives).
