Antique Victorian Silver Inkwell. London 1882

  
A very handsome antique Victorian silver and cut glass inkwell and stand. The silver hallmarked LONDON 1882 by the maker JB for HENRY WILKINSON & CO [JOHN BRASHIER]. Matching hallmarks on silver inkwell cover. The stand weighs an impressive 168.9g and had a good thick gauge. A scalloped beaded border has a wonderful pierced inner band interspersed with classical motifs.

No damage wear or thinning whatsoever. The hemispherical cut crystal glass inkwell has deep cutting and polished facets. The base has a protruding foot that sits in the stand securely.

The silver cover fully hallmarked. The hinged cover has matching embossed decoration. However the cover has become detached at the hinge and would need laser welding to re-attach. There are traces of old glue where it was attached to prevent loss.
