Antique Victorian Sampson Mordan Solid Silver Dropper Propelling Pencil, c1880. Antique Victorian solid silver propelling gravity/dropper pencil.
Cylindrical shaped body with heavy knurled decoration around the outside. Plain stepped band at the tip end & a domed top cap with attached suspension loop & ring. On the side is a plain button which when pressed allows the in ternal propelling pencil tip to drop out. The pencil has a twist action tip which when twisted extends & retracts the internal pencil lead mechanism. Both mechanisms are in excellent working condition.
The pencil comes complete with a lead in the tip. The pencil is marked on the side of the bottom stepped band with S. MORDAN & CO PATT 18436-89 As was quite common with small pieces of silver from this period the pencil is not hallmarked but has been acid tested to confirm solid sterling silver.
