Antique Sterling Silver 16 pc Vanity Dresser Set Levi & Salaman 1900 with Case

  
A lovely late Victorian sterling silver vanity set in a travel case. N ornate, elegant scroll, floral and lattice repousse pattern with cartouche. There are a total of 16 pieces in the set, 14 of which are in the same pattern and were made by Levi & Salaman of Birmingham, England in 1900. The other two pieces are not original to the set. One of the brushes was made by Mitchell & Bosley, Birmingham in 1900 and is very similar in pattern to the Levi & Salaman pieces. The comb was made by Synyer & Beddoes, Birmingham in 1901 and features a different but complementary pattern of the same period. The set includes 1 mirror. 2 hairbrushes (one Levi & Salaman, one Mitchell and Bosley).

1 comb with plastic teeth. 2 heart-shaped cut glass jars with sterling lids.

1 pair glove stretchers with celluloid stretchers. The manicure tools, shoe horn, button hook and tweezers have steel implements marked'STEEL'. All 14 of the Levi & Salaman pieces have the same hallmarks: L&S makers mark, Birmingham anchor, lion passant and date letter'a' for 1900. The other two pieces are hallmarked as well with their respective makers marks, date letters. Birmingham anchor, and lion passant. No monograms on the Levi & Salaman pieces. The Mitchell & Bosley brush is inscribed'Silvia' in the center cartouche and the comb is monogrammed. All pieces are stored in a black leather travel case lined with green satin and velvet. The case features two small empty compartments with lids and a drop front. There are two empty spaces for scissors which sadly I don't have! The case measures 15 x 9 3/4" x 4 1/4" and weighs 5 lb 12.6 oz with contents. The case has the gold lettering on the satin lining. Overall in very nice antique condition. A few dings on some pieces, most.

In the solid cartouche area of. The clothes brushes and one of the jar lids.

Otherwise only expected wear from age and use. No cracks to the mirror or glass jars.

There is a small chip on the side of one glass jar towards the bottom and a few fleabites on both, but nothing particularly noticeable unless you look very closely to find them! The steel elements have some darkening and rust spots. Some bristle losses on the outer row of the Levi & Salaman brush. Normal wear to the case.
