Large Solid Silver Flagon/Tankard with Victorian Chased Motifs - Martin Hall & Co, 1862. The photos below are of the actual product you will receive. We are delighted to offer this magnificent Victorian silver lidded flagon/tankard made in Sheffield by silversmith Martin Hall & Co in 1862. Due to the flagon being made during the Victorian era, the exterior features a popular Victorian chased design with all original floral motif chasing, unlike counterpart tankards/flagons which have been "later-chased". The external body features an impressive array of floral designs, stippled backgrounds, scrolled acanthus leaves and a superb figural spout with Silenus' face (Silenus - a Greek mythological figure and the companion & tutor of the Greek wine god, Dionysus). A vacant cartouche is present in the middle centre of the body with a foliate acanthus scroll border encompassing the area.

The body of the flagon is raised by a wide and sturdy circular foot with matching chased motifs as the body and lid. Interior-wise, the flagon is fully gilt with a lustrous and brilliant gold colour which reflects off the cylindrical sides, resulting in a further rich and indulging gold tone.

The elegant handle terminates with hear-shaped finial with the top end conjoining at the hinge of the lid with an applied thumbpiece for ease of use. Volume-wise, the large scale allows for up to 1 litre of liquid content (1.7 Pints). The flagon is fully hallmarked on the base and interior lid with clear, matching marks. An excellent and refined choice for the uncompromising collector or equally for those who wish to use the flagon practically with wine, beer, beverages of your choice.
