ANTIQUE JAMES DIXON & SONS ENGLISH STERLING SILVER TRAVEL FLASK WITH REMOVABLE CUPS. The internal flask is glass with removable sterling silver "cups" on top and bottom. The cups have a flat bottom so they will sit on a table. The top of the bottle has a sterling silver bayonet twist lid.

The flask is larger than most, measuring about 7" tall, 3 3/4" wide, and 1 1/2 thick. The sterling cups weigh a combined 243.2 grams (8.6 ounces).

With the glass flask inside, the piece weighs 1,058 grams (37.3 ounces). Both of the cups have inscriptions. The bottom cup is marked in script. A gentle reminder of a very happy time - What about a Jappie?

" (no idea what a "Jappie is). The top cup has the previous owners names.

With some research, I bet someone could figure out who these individuals were. The back side of each cup, as well as the lip of the flask cap, have the maker's mark for James Dixon & Sons (JD&S in cartouche), the crown mark for Sheffield, the lion passant stamp for sterling quality, and the date letter mark for 1904 (flask cap has date letter for 1903). Founded in 1806, James Dixon & Sons was one of the major British silver manufacturers of the 19th century. They were known for designing and making exclusive products for dignitaries, royalty, famous people, and wealthy individuals who wanted something unusual or valuable.

Condition of this antique silver flask is EXCELLENT. The removable cups have a few minor dings and small discoloration spots. The bayonet cap operates properly and still has its cork liner intact. The glass internal flask has some scratches from removing the cups and is slightly dirty inside (I did not try to clean it). Overall, this early 20th-century flask looks fantastic and displays beautifully.

It would make a fine addition to any collection. Please take a close look at the many photos I've provided and judge condition for yourself. This flask is larger and more unique than most. Inscriptions Dated 1911 and 1944. Sterling Mark For James Dixon & Sons, Sheffield, 1904.

Flat Bottom on Removable Cups. James Dixon & Sons Mark, 1903.
