EA lovely antique Dutch silver tea caddy of navette form, with upturned cover. The cover is surmounted with a silver galleon, that sits securely and firmly on top. The hinge is good and sound. The whole body and cover of this caddy is smothered in profuse decoration so typical of these imported Dutch silver items.
The designs feature pastoral and figures scenes, Rococo arcades and rich classical swags. The silver is not over cleaned and very crisp with no holes or thinning. The hallmarks are present in profusion. A copious amount of Dutch marks to base, and a full set of English import marks for LONDON 1905 found on the inner rim of the caddy.
The importer or sponsor being BM, for BERTHOLD MULLER. The interior is fabulously clean. There is slightest evidence of wear or use to the base rim, but nothing of any consequence at all, and only mentioned for accuracy. A most suitable item for display or used as a lovely storage container or desk item. Weighing a robust 3.8 oz. The height is 9 cm, and the width of base being 8.7 cm.
