Outstanding antique sterling silver book cover, marked "COMMON PRAYER" on the top of spine. It covers front and back of book with a simple latch closure on side.
The cover has ornate repousse flower design, all hand chased with fine tool and hammer marks. On front cover, inside large cartouche surrounded by flowers, there is a large fancy entwined script monogram.
Back cover is engraved "Xmas 1891" inside a matching cartouche. Book cover measures 5" x 3-1/4" and will hold book 1/2 thick.
There are grooves inside cover to hold the actual book cover in place. I cannot find any marks, has been tested (twice, and jeweler x-rayed) and guaranteed solid 925 sterling. Weighs 172.46 grams, over 6 oz.
