1869 Victorian Solid Silver Three Piece Holy Communion Set. A lovely three piece set comprising chalice, jug and Paten. All three stand on pedestal bases and are decorated with a Repousse decoration. All three have an engraved monogram I.

(In His Service, see below) with engraved sun beams. Full English Silver Hallmarks for George Unite, Birmingham, England. A stunning set in very good pre-loved and used antique condition.

Small ding to the edge of the repousse work when viewed with the handle on the left. Stubborn piece of tarnish above monogram. Paten - There is a very small ding when viewed from below. All in very good order with nothing more than age related use wear.

A beautiful and unusual antique set. Paten diameter: 6.5cm 2. The monogram (initials) IHS refers to Jesus and is made up of the first three letters of the name of Jesus when written in the Greek alphabet. The three letters were incorrectly transcribed/written in the Latin/English alphabet as I H S. The monogram became very popular in the Middle Ages and many explanations of IHS were offered, the most common being Iesus Hominum Salvator (latin for "Jesus, Saviour of Mankind").

Likewise, today IHS is sometimes understood to represent the phrase "In His Service". The monogram is frequently seen in liturgical art and architecture, especially vestments. This set is already in circulation meaning no new silver has been used.
