The bowl is finely shaped and pierced a very intricate pattern. It is wholly made of finest quality French sterling silver. 950 purity and weighs heavy 3.24 oz (92 grams). Hallmarked French Michel-Ange (Vieillard) No. 950 purity sterling silver, used in Paris 1819 till 1838.
This is one of the highest quality silver in the world at the time, purer than standard. The maker's mark is that of Bazil Chenaillier , 3 rue de Harlay, worked in Paris since 1807 (date of the mark struck-off is unknown). There are also two silver guarantee mark of Paris.
