1895 Victorian Cased Sterling Silver Apostle & Shell Spoons & Sugar Tongs

  
For offer, a set of Victorian sterling silver, Apostle & Shell spoons and sugar tongs, complete with their original case. Each spoon has an Apostle figure finial, twist handle and shell bowl, the tongs have an Apostle figure to both shoulders, twist arms and shell bowls. I would class these as coffee spoons, though the bowls are deeper than most that I have seen. Hallmarked for the Birmingham assay office, year date letter of a lowercase Gothic "v" for 1895, and maker's mark of M. Bros for'Miller Brothers' of London, established in the 1870s.

The spoons and tongs condition is superb, being free from damage with some light signs of age and usage, all hallmarks are clear and legible, with the shell bowls having gilt remains, the leather covered case is very good to excellent, with little signs externally of age, the internal lining is excellent, and has the original retailers details for Edinburgh. Spoon length: 4 (10.1cm). Tongs length: 3 5/8 (9.1cm).
