1891 Solid English Sterling Silver Sovereign Case. Full English Sterling Silver Hallmarks for Birmingham 1891. Hallmarked to the sovereign plate, the bail/loop and the case cover.

One of the makers initials has worn or was a mis-stamp. Likely Mitchell Bosley & Co from the font, year and assay office, although I cannot be certain of this.

The chain also has the lion passant present. Beautiful Art Nouveau Scroll Engraved Pattern throughout, no softening of the engraving. A very intricately detailed and designed piece.

It's not often you see a sovereign case of this age with such an intricate design nor one so well preserved. Presented in very good pre-loved and used antique condition, no dings, dents, splits, tears or repairs.

Externally the case is in excellent condition. However, internally there is some misshaping to the silver rim of the sovereign spring bed, please see photos. The hinge is in excellent condition and inside the spring that holds the sovereign is in good working condition, the case has a good strong snap closure.

Unfortunately, cover of the case is somewhat stiff when opening. It does not spring open when the button is depressed. You need to help the mechanism and once it gets part way open it does spring. Likely from age and use.

Complete with a good loop and 4cm 1. 1/2 long curb link chain. Measurements approximately: Diameter: 3cm 1. This piece is already in circulation meaning no new silver has been used.
