1841 Antique Victorian Solid Silver Three Piece Holy Communion Set. A lovely three piece set comprising chalice, decanter and paten. The parcel gilt lined chalice and the paten stand on pedestal bases.

The decanter is made of glass with silver screw top and collar. The chalice and the paten have an engraved with the'IHS' Christogram (In His Service, see below) within sunburst. All Three Silver Pieces Have Full English Silver Hallmarks for Joseph Willmore, Birmingham, 1841. A beautiful and unusual antique set. All three pieces fit very nice and neatly into the case.

Presented in excellent pre-loved and used antique condition. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. Glass wine decanter in excellent condition with no faults. The glass wine decanter with silver screw top, c. Aten all stand straight, no wobble. There is some surface scratching and wear to the case and loss to the leather overall. Decanter height: 7.5cm (3.1/2). Chalice height: 6.5cm (6.1/2). Paten diameter: 5.2cm (2.1/8). The Christogram IHS refers to Jesus and is made up of the first three letters of the name of Jesus when written in the Greek alphabet. The three letters were incorrectly transcribed/written in the Latin/English alphabet as I H S. The monogram became very popular in the Middle Ages and many explanations of IHS were offered, the most common being Iesus Hominum Salvator (latin for "Jesus, Saviour of Mankind"). Likewise, today IHS is sometimes understood to represent the phrase "In His Service".

The Christogram is frequently seen in liturgical art and architecture, especially vestments. This set is already in circulation meaning no new silver has been used. The ultimate in sustainable shopping. All of my items are carefully and lovingly selected by myself.
