This impressive antique silver carriage clock retains the original hinged hallmarked scrolling swing carrying handle. The white enamel dial is ornamented with black hour Roman numerals, the face of this timepiece is visible through a circular glass'window' with a plain applied silver border. The hallmarked hinged door opens to reveal the original eight-day movement.
Timepieces of this style are often boudoir clocks; larger examples such as this are scarce to the market. It has been keeping good time and has speed adjustment to rear, it is marked with a label to assist. The silver case is in good condition, apart from the rear door there is minimal wear, a couple of small marks in places.The rear door has some minor dents that could possibly be worked out, the door hinge will need looking at as it is only just hanging on though not noticeable when door is closed. It is missing one of its bun feet and has been replaced with what looks like an aluminium foot to the rear corner. The enamel face is in excellent order, there is a couple of light marks to the glass window. The clock is fully hallmarked William Comyns, London, 1898 to its base. There is also hallmarks to carriage handle and rear door.
