STUNNING LARGE HEAVEY VICTORIAN Adolf Mayer FLOWER EMBOSSED SOLID SILVER SNUFF BOX. This is a very fine quality Beautiful Large & Heavy Victorian Solid Silver Cushion Shape Snuff Box, this wonderful large snuff box was crafted by Adolf Mayer in Germany , i would estimate it dates to circa 1880 making it nearly 140 years old, the hinge top of the snuff box has been crafted with the most beautiful embossed flowers and foliage which are raised up creating a stunning effect, i would say the flowers are Roses which have been crafted with fine detailing, this is then framed with an engraved border of scroll work, to the outer edge of the silver snuff box you will see again another engraved border with flowers and scrolls, its stunning, both sides have a lovely smooth finish, on turning the snuff box over you will see the most wonderful engraved flowers and foliage which then frames the large central blank cartouch with engraved scrolls, using the thumb piece on the top the hinged lid opens as good today as the day it was crafted, it is breath taking, the quality of the craftsmanship is superb.

This would have once belonged to a very wealthy Victorian Gentleman and sat proudly on the table top ready to be used, this was many many years ago when times were so very different, if this snuff box could talk i can just imagine what fascinating stories it could tell, this snuff box is so very tactile and once held it has the most wonderful feel. This will add something very special to any collection, my photos dont do it justice. Please study the photos as this is an extremely rare large snuff box, this does have a hallmarks inside. Just over 2 cm height.
