A very interesting unique sterling silver cigar case. It is hallmarked for London 1904 with the makers marks being Hamilton & Co of Regent St London.
It has a tradition design but most interesting is its inscription which relates to the retirement of a police detective after 25 years service in 1904. This means he would have started his career in 1879 so would have been around at the time of the murders by Jack the Ripper although he was in C Division which I think was responsible for Chelsea and Soho which must have been very interesting indeed at that time.It is in superb condition being free from dings splits and repairs - the odd faint mark and tiny corner pimple see final photo. It measures 5.25 inches (13.3cms) long by 3 inches wide and weighs 185 grams. A high quality museum worthy piece. If you have any queries etc...
