Late Victorian / Early 1900's Matchsafe / Vesta Case. Wonderful attention to detail, beautiful elephant with four legs and trunk down in a low arc. The elephant is adorned with a six-tassel blanket and one-tassel head piece. I cannot represent this piece to be silver, although I have always believed it to be. In fact, I cannot find any Silver Marks, Hallmarks, or Makers Marks of any kind whatsoever. Nice antique condition; opens and closes and will stay in either position, but no longer clicks or snaps shut; photos fairly represent condition.
